Issued by the Taree and Wingham Tourist Associations, this is believed to be the Mid North Coast’s first travel guide. It was touted to give all the information that the holiday-maker needs. An article in the Wingham Chronicle was complimentary noting: ‘… The letterpress provides concise descriptions and supplies in the simplest form directions for reaching the resorts in the districts name…’
The booklet’s purpose was to make as widely known as possible, the coastal district of the Wallamba River in the south to the Hasting River in the north, including the fertile and prosperous Manning River district. At the time there was a view that too little was known about the region’s magnificent scenery and economic prospects. The foreword states: ‘…It is felt that as a health and a pleasure resort the district is second to none, while to the intended settler it should appeal with great force…’.
The guide features numerous photographs together with beautifully written and informative descriptions of each area, including: how to get there, travel times and distances, what to see and do and where to stay together with geographical and historical background and advertisements for local businesses.
